Andre Russell has returned to the West Indies T20I squad for the first time in two years after being named in the squad for the upcoming five-match series against England at home. Russell, who last played for the West Indies in the 2021 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, is now back in the running to play in next year’s T20 World Cup at home, reports Live Cricket Score.
Young all-rounder Matthew Forde, who impressed on his ODI debut in the last match against England, has been selected for the first time in the T20I squad. Jason Holder, Nicholas Pooran and Kyle Mayers were also selected after the trio missed the ODI series.
The selectors also remembered Sherfane Rutherford, who last played in a T20I almost four years ago. ODI captain Shai Hope has been named as Rovman Powell’s successor. Changes could be made in the final two ODIs, with selectors naming a 15-man squad for the first three matches. The series begins on December 12th in Barbados.
“This will be the final home T20I series for the West Indies in 2023 as they prepare as the second host team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June 2024.” – Desmond, the West Indies manager, said Haynes.”We have selected a squad that gives us the best chance of success in that tournament.
