Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has been named head coach of the Northern Superchargers men’s team in The Hundred, the organisation announced on Wednesday. He takes over for James Foster in the role.
Flintoff, who played 79 Tests, 141 ODIs, and seven T20Is, sustained face injuries and fractured ribs earlier this year while filming a show and was out for six months. He returned to England’s coaching staff for the September series against New Zealand and Ireland, reports Live Cricket Score.
“I am excited to have been appointed Head Coach of the Northern Superchargers men’s team,” said Flintoff, who is in his first season as a head coach in the tournament. Thank you very much to Kirsty and Marcus for entrusting me with the team. My time with the England Men’s team reminded me how special cricket is to me, and I’m excited to be back amongst it, guiding the Superchargers team to success on the field while making memories and bringing cricket to more people.
“The Superchargers have a fantastic fan base that I can’t wait to meet and welcome this season.” “I’m excited to make Headingley my new home.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Andrew to the Northern Superchargers family,” said Northern Superchargers Chair Kirsty Bashforth. He is an inspirational figure who is widely respected throughout the game of cricket, and we know he will thrill our players, coaches, and supporters. Andrew will assist us in developing a distinct culture, and we are really thrilled to work with him to further motivate our group with positive, entertaining, and consistently winning cricket.”
