The first Ashes match will start on June 16, which is four days after the WTC final is supposed to end. The five matches will be played over just over six weeks, with shorter breaks between the Tests. While some rotation would probably occur during the red-ball tour, Cummins noted that he wouldn’t want to be the one missing out.
When asked if he could play all six, Cummins responded, “I mean, it’s a balance. “I’ve been worn out and low before, but I still got up and thought I did a great job. But if something like that comes up at any point, it’s a conversation. There are some nice breaks between roughly every batch of two Test matches here, so I’ll aim to play all six. So I believe it to be manageable. However, Cam Green undoubtedly contributes in a small way as well with the number of overs he can bowl, “Added the 30-year-old.
Cummins will play in his 50th test on Wednesday (June 7), a milestone he is particularly proud of given the string of back injuries he has endured, reports Cricket Live Score.
Cummins stated that he always views longevity as a major accomplishment on par with average strike rates or any other aspect of performance. “Test cricket is challenging. You take part in games in a variety of settings all over the world. It is physically demanding. So, playing 50 games as a fast bowler is something to be very proud of. In particular, because it seemed like [another] Test match was a long way off for five or six years.”
After making his Test debut in Johannesburg in 2011, Cummins had to wait nearly five and a half years before playing another match for Australia. Even the shorter periods of white-ball formats were difficult for him due to his persistent back problems.
