The 2-test series between England and Sri Lanka is delayed with no further date announced for the reschedule, the England Cricket Board (ECB) said. ECB had no plans of cancellation or postponement of the series starting from 19 March, yet the situations changed overnight for a call-off at this point in time.
The players and staff have recently traveled to Sri Lanka after the issue of Corona impact (COVID-19 virus) started troubling the world seriously. There were statements from the ECB, “We appreciate the fans to maintain good hygiene levels while interacting with players and maintain a certain distance to prevent the spread of corona”, it said.
Despite all the preventive measures ahead of the tournament, the boards of England-Sri Lanka finalized to break-up the schedule without any start for the time being.
An ECB statement read: ”Due to the Covid-19 pandemic worsening globally, and after discussions with Sri Lanka Cricket, we have today made the decision to return our players to the U.K and postpone the forthcoming Test series between Sri Lanka and England.
We would like to thank our colleagues at Sri Lanka Cricket for their outstanding support and assistance throughout this situation. We look forward to returning to Sri Lanka in the very near future to fulfill this important Test series”
