As the winners of the Australian Cricket Awards in 2024, Mitchell Marsh and Ashleigh Gardner proved to be the finest. Marsh won the Allan Border Medal, becoming the first all-rounder since Shane Watson in 2011, while Gardner won the Belinda Clark Award for the second consecutive time, according to Cricket Live Score.
Marsh gained 223 votes, 79 ahead of Pat Cummins, who was having a great year. Gardner earned 147 head counts, placing higher than Ellyse Perry (134 votes) and Annabel Sutherland (106 votes).
The third One Day International World Cup of 2008 culminated in Marsh’s successful year as he scored his career-best 177* in the match against Bangladesh. He followed that up with his maiden Test triple century during the fourth Test after missing out on the first two tests. Gardner won more wickets for Australia than any of her teammates during the qualifying period, with 56 scalps at 19.39 in 30 matches, and the only figures to better this by a woman bowler are those of England’s Kerry Dixon in 1962: 13 for 47 against Australia in Madras
Nathan Lyon, who took his wicket in the 500th Test last month and was an instrumental figure in Australia’s series-levelling win in the Indore Test, received the Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year. Her score turned out to be the batting player recently revived who won Women’s T20I Player of the Year and Women’s ODI Player of the Year awards, Ellyse Perry. Marsh enjoyed his best phase as an opener but also emerged as a one-down batter in the white-ball formats and he was awarded with the Men’s ODI Player of the Year.
