Brendon McCullum may have cajoled the notion of an exclusively spin-based side against India, but that strategy will have to work its way through a few more matches before it can be exercised. England’s most senior spinner in the current squad, Jack Leach, is unlikely to feature in the next match with Visakhapatnam, reports Cricket Live Score.
The left-arm spinner, who damaged his knee cap while fielding in the outfield three times and then put it through by bowling with it in the fourth inning, did not bowl during the practice session on the second day before the Test match in Visakhapatnam. He appeared to be walking with a limp and was observed receiving rehab on the sidelines of England’s training session.
However, England now has a spinning ally in offspinner Shoaib Bashir, who is likely to debut for them in Bangalore, given he could not travel on time due to his visa complications and hence was unavailable for the team selection in Hyderabad. McCullum has discussed Bashir’s impact on the management, which occurred during a UAE team camp.
Bashir is a good boy and has something with him. He knows what he wants to do with his bowling and believes in himself. I like it and think if given a chance in this series, he would sail through,” said Zak Crawley about Bashir.
