Leicestershire removed from head coach role after six years

by info@cricketlivescore.co.uk

After serving as Leicestershire’s head coach for almost six years, Paul Nixon has been fired. Less than three months into the gardening season, the 52-year-old was placed on gardening leave. After a strong start in the County Championship, they had a terrible T20 Blast performance, winning only two of their first 11 games.

Earlier, the club announced the departures of Colin Ackermann, Callum Parkinson, and Chris Wright at the end of the season. Wright has since signed a two-year contract with Sussex. The trio’s upcoming resignation did not indicate a wider upheaval, but BBC Radio Leicester understands that Nixon’s removal will foreshadow other departures. Nixon’s departure is the club’s second big management shuffle in as many years, following the appointment of Claude Henderson as director of cricket in 2021 to work with his former Foxes teammate, reports Cricket Live Score.

Former England wicketkeeper Nixon played successfully with Leicestershire, winning the County Championship twice and the T20 competition three times with the underdog Foxes. Leicestershire have struggled to compete for trophies after their role in the 2011 T20 title success.

Nixon’s final match as head coach was Tuesday’s T20 home loss to Nottinghamshire Outlaws, which dropped the Foxes to the bottom of the North Group.
