Mahmudullah's makes a return to Bangladesh's potent World Cup squad

Mahmudullah, the seasoned batsman who was overlooked for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, has staged a remarkable comeback, securing a spot in Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA/West Indies.

Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, the 15-member squad sees Taskin Ahmed serving as his deputy. Concerns arose over Taskin’s fitness, prompting Hasan Mahmud to step in as his replacement for the upcoming T20Is against the USA before the World Cup. However, selectors remain optimistic about Taskin’s recovery, entrusting him with the vice-captaincy. Hasan Mahmud and Afif Hossain have been named as reserves, adding depth to the squad, reports Cricket Live Score.

Mahmudullah’s resurgence is undoubtedly the highlight of the squad. After being absent from the T20I scene since September 2022, he staged a remarkable return during the home series against Sri Lanka in March. His consistent performances, particularly in the T20Is against Zimbabwe, positioned him as a strong contender for the final squad, despite uncertainties surrounding the selection policies for senior players.

Leading the pace attack is Mustafizur Rahman, supported by Shoriful Islam and Taskin. Tanzim Sakib, the bowling all-rounder, earns his place as the fourth seamer in the squad, edging out Mohammad Saifuddin.
