PowerPlay Guide

Powerplay is nothing but field restriction on how many fielders are allowed outside the 30 yard circle, which came into existance after the introduction of limited-over format. There different powerplay rules for Men & Women, and also there are differences between ODI & T20I restrictions as well.

Starting with men’s ODI powerplay rules for the first ten overs only 2 fielders are allowed outside 30 yard circle, and from 11-40 overs only 4 fielders are allowed outside 30 yard circle, so for the last 10 overs 5 fielders are allowed outside the circle whereas in women’s ODI powerplay restrictions in the last 10 overs only 4 fielders are allowed outside the circle. In women’s ODI cricket there is a 5-over batting powerplay which allows only 3 fielders ouside the circle. And not to forget in Women’s cricket the circle is of 25 yards only unlike 30 yards for men.

Looking at T20I powerplay rules only two fielders are allowed outside the circle for the first 6 overs, which is applicable for both men & women, and for the rest of the overs only 5 fielders are allowed outside circle for men & 4 fielders for women.
