Rashid Khan to play for first time since ODI World Cup

by venkata

The leader of the Afghanistan cricket team, Rashid Khan, will resume competitive playing for the three T20 matches away against Ireland. The spin bowling allrounder has been absent from the team, undergoing back surgery, since the ODI World in November last year, reports Cricket Live Score.

Ireland won the only match played, and now Afghanistan leads the ongoing three-ODI series by 1-0. In the tournament’s first game, Ireland was the victor, while the second match was cancelled. The last of the series, the One Day International (ODI) on March 12, will be followed by three T20Is on March 15, 17, and 18, respectively, all to be held in Sharjah.

“The target is to compete in the up-and-coming tour ( T20 Vs. Afghanistan) and the training has commenced already. This was the second day, and it was a relief that it was quite smooth. It is my wish that the forthcoming days are also well too so that I may be able to put on the national jersey once again to continue to play well for my country,” Rashid was quoted in a VDO interview that the Afghanistan Cricket Board posted on Saturday (March 9).

Rashid, however, confessed that the past three months were difficult for him because he was undergoing treatment after the surgery, which was going slower than they had thought.
