Steven Finn retires from professional cricket

On Monday, England fast bowler Steven Finn made his professional cricket retirement official (August 14). Finn missed more than a year of red-ball cricket due to a knee injury he sustained in 2023.

In a statement, Finn declared, “Today, I am retiring from all forms of cricket with immediate effect.” “For the past twelve months, I have been at war with my body, and I have conceded defeat. I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been able to pursue cricket as a career since I made my Middlesex debut in 2005. Even though the journey wasn’t always easy, I still enjoyed it. I never imagined that I would play 125 games for England, including 36 tests. I leave this world with some incredible experiences in England, Middlesex, and Sussex that I shared with wonderful people. Those will always be a part of me.”

According to Cricket Live Score, Finn made his Middlesex first-class debut in 2005. He was drafted into the national team and played his first Test against Bangladesh in 2010. The following year, he made his ODI debut. In 36 Test matches, he recorded 125 wickets and three Ashes victories. He played in the 2015 World Cup and took 102 wickets in just 69 ODI matches cricket.

Finn, who spent the majority of his playing career with Middlesex, joined Sussex in 2022 and competed in 19 games before suffering an injury. In a One-Day Cup match against Durham earlier this month, he did attempt a comeback, but he was forced to leave the field after only four overs. The 34-year-old went on to play in 21 T20Is, but in 2017, right before the Champions Trophy, he made his final appearance in national colours in the 50-over format.
