Ben Stokes suffered a knee injury last year and missed the last three Ashes Tests at home in Australia. After announcing his retirement from ODIs, he gave himself a chance to play in the World Cup in India and emerged as the tournament’s best player. Ultimately, the 32-year-old was diagnosed after the tournament ended and raced against time to qualify for the Test match in India, reports Cricket Live Score.
Stokes, who gradually started hitting the net at some point in the series, played only in the final Test match at Dharamsala. Stokes now has his sights set on the County Championship to make a comeback as a bowler during England’s summer tour against the West Indies and Sri Lanka.
Stokes said: “I am working hard and focusing on improving my fitness to perform all my duties as a batsman in all cricket matches. I hope the selection for IPL and World Cup will be a sacrifice that will enable me to become the team I want to be in the future.”
