Just over a month ago, doubts loomed over Rishabh Pant’s participation in the ongoing Indian Premier League. Yet, with just a few days left before the selection of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, Pant emerges as a strong candidate for a leadership role within the squad , reports Cricket Live Score.
The national selectors, set to convene on May 1, are anticipated to contemplate reinstating Pant as vice-captain of India, a position he previously held before a lengthy hiatus due to a near-fatal accident in December 2022. Notably, Pant had even captained India during the five-match T20I series against South Africa in June 2022. As the confirmed first-choice wicketkeeper for the T20 World Cup in June, Pant’s leadership potential becomes increasingly significant.
However, Pant’s potential elevation is not without its complexities, particularly with Hardik Pandya emerging as another viable contender. Yet, recent developments in the Indian Premier League, where Pandya faced challenges in galvanizing the Mumbai Indians side, have sparked discussions. Questionable decisions as captain and public criticism of a teammate following a recent defeat may sway the scales in favor of Pant, the Delhi Capitals skipper.
